Species

Apricot

A regional staple fruit — fresh in season, dried for storage and sale the rest of the year.

Scientific name: Prunus armeniaca

Apricots grow well across western Afghanistan and carry real market value both fresh and dried, which makes them a livelihood crop rather than only a food crop.

Trees establish quickly with good early watering and respond well to basic pruning training.
